She is a rolling machine now. She rolled about 10 times last night when she was laying by the Christmas tree. She can even reliably get her arm out from underneath now, and prop herself up. This is a great thing to watch, while we are awake.. but she isn't so good at going from her stomach to back. She has only done that once. 3 times last night we had to goto her nursery and roll over a screaming baby who was face down and VERY unhappy about it. At some point we had chnaged her crib sheet, and Bill had forgot to tuck the bumber pad back in. HUGE issue now that she can move about a lot. At 3 am I walked into two candy sticking out of the crib slats (she had on her stripedy christmas jammies). Good thing we aren't of the mind to let her "cry it out" b/c she could have really been hurt/suffocated b/c her legs were stuck! The pads are now tightly secured back into the matress!

I finally saw!
Last night I finally witnessed Ginny rolling over! We had a really productive day yesterday and took a lot of great pictures. Here is a sneak peak, coming soon to Christmas cards addressed to you! She LOVES Santa Pooh. He isn't nearly as exciting now that he isn't holding a sapphire bracelet, but he'll do. I think she likes his sparkly outfit. Also she has been sticking out her tongue lately, SO cute.

a "flurry" of updates
I don't know where the times seems to go. Ginny has been making tremendous progress growing up. On Dec 2 Ginny rolled over for the first time, from her back to stomach! All the time I spend at home, she does it with Dad on the blanket with her, while I am in the other room. She did it for a second time that night, again, after I had left the room!! Thursday she did the same thing, again with Daddy. Friday the 5th she rolled from her stomach to her back for the first time.. you guessed it.. with Daddy! YES, to answer everyone's question, I do spend time with her on the floor during the day. however, she always has her big nap (3 hours) of the day in the afternoon, so she is geared up and rested to play when Dad gets home!
On Tues Dec 9 she had her 4 month shots and check up. She was 26 inches and 13lbs12ozs. 90th percentile in height and 50th in weight. No doubt she is Bill's baby! She didn't cry much at all for the shots, I was relieved! She had met all her cognitive and physical milestones, and the Doctor was really pleased with her overall health and behavior. Sassy lost sight of me for a second during her check up and started to put up a fuss. The Dr. commented that it was really something for a 4 month old to have stranger anxiety, that multiple functions have to take place within the brain for that to occur.. which typically doesn't happen until 6 months of age.. smart patoot! Again, no denying she is Bill's!!
On Sat the 6th, a friend from church came over to take our family christmas photos. Ginny was adorable in her velvet christmas dress. she is also enjoying her 1st christmas tree, which is also the first tree bill and i have had since we were married. she loves the lights!
SNOW! Yes, here in Louisiana. Sassy got a chance to try on her Pooh Snowsuit that her Grandma in Michigan sent for her. It kept her snuggly warm when we went out to take some pictures of her first snow!

Michael Phelps says its ok to pee in the pool ginny,
...however, he did not say it is ok to poop, which is what she did, in her bathwater on Tuesday!
In other news, she sat in high chair last night for the first time! Yesterday we went to pick up the high chair pad, which is super cute, just like Ginny. It fit so well I was really excited. Anyhow b/c she has been holding her head up so good, and is wanting to sit up on me, and tries to sit up in her bouncer I thought we'd give it a shot. I put some blankets in on the sides of her, to take up the extra space, and she did so well! While we had dinner she played with her toys and emitted cuteness. I will post some pictures later, she seems to be waking up now for lunch!

cuteness

well, our baby is cute, in case you haven't noticed. The degree of cuteness seems to multiply exponentially everday. Today Sassy and I did a ton of laundry. It is also vacuum day, which I guess I will have to take care of later tonite. There is always something. I also worked on her photo album, which I have sadly barely started. We also spent some time, diaper free, under her gym. We did that for about 40 minutes, she peed twice. Thank goodness for waterproof mats. She has a bad dipaer rash that sprang up over nite, it is everywhere.. so I thought a good airing out would help, and it does seem better. Today after "tummy time" she was rolled over on her back, and that is how she fell asleep, in the living room. She did that yesterday too. So hopefully this will be one step towards napping in the play pen at some point. She will not take her long nap anywhere else but the swing, for now at least. I tired yesterday to put her in the crib at the designated time, all she did was cry. She was out like a light as soon as she got in the swing and got her blankie.
Dad is home now, so time to go.

baptism and the election

Here is a quick update on Ginny. Last week her MD Grandparents and Uncle Brian came down for a visit to celebrate her baptism. She did wonderful at church and looked like a little angel in her gown! A couple people, including a pastor, have inquired as to how much tylenol i give her to make her behave so well.. I didn't know this was something that occurred often enough for people to actually suspect that when they encouter a good baby. Ginny is absolutely wonderful, we are so blessed. When she is crying it is for a reason, she usually passes gas or poops shortly there after, or has a quick meltdown before naptime. Put the blankie next to her face and she is out!!
She has rediscovered her thumb, and now uses that more often that a combo of two fingers. A family friend of bill's parents sent down a crinkle book that has two ends she can chew on. it is pooh of course, and she loves the bright colors, crinkle sound, and the chew board. Yesterday at the Dr she was 12lbs 15ozs!! That is so hard to believe.
Yesterday she went with her Dad and I to vote. We walked there as the polling station was at UL, at the rec center behind our neighborhood. she looked cute in her coordinating outfit, and got an " i voted" sticker to wear home. She is not happy with the outcome, although our state voted for the right choice.. haha. She would like to step up our plan to move to Ireland. Good thing Bill's brother is a pilot. I Know Grandma is reading this right now and cringing about that flight- but jsut think, you only have ONE plane to get on, and they are huge!!! Brian says they are often not at full capacity- you might even get first class!!! :DD

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Well, we were excited to have our first halloween together. ginny had a onesie that she could only wear for a short time, it made her too hot. then there was the chilli pepper costume, which was too short for her, even though when i bought it, it seemed so long!!
here she is in all her ridiculously cute glory!!! thanks to aunt clara, grandma barb, and chirdon grandparents for her first halloween cards!! also, in addition to the traditional malamute on a pumpkin, bill put ginny on a pumpkin too! the trick or treaters loved it, especially the girls of course!

She found her thumb
Friday Sassy sucessfuly got just her thumb in her mouth. Since then she has decided that it is easier just go go for the fingers and usually has two or three in there. Supre cute, but loud! Last week was her first set of shots. She wasn't right for a whole day after that, neither was Mom. She is getting cuter by the day and wearing more and more cute outfits. Time seems to be short these days, we need to get some more pictures. Well, I hear her working Bill over in the other room so I'd better keep this short!Saturday, October 4, 2008
Happy Birthday

Miss Sassy is two months old today! Here is a picture of her in a cute little outfit sent by Uncle's Eric and Bill in Seattle. She had a busy second half of her week, visiting with her Granma and Granpa. The days went by really quickly, we were sad to see them leave this morning. Grandpa finished up her high chair. It has been stained and looks brand new. It was my high chair, and had been stored in my Grandmother's attic for what, 30 years? It wasn't covered and was quite dirty, I wish we had a before picture for comparison. Noting else new is going on. Sass has been doing well in he crib the last few nights and enjoying her new crib companion, a sea horse sent by Lisa.

She did it!

Sassy slept all night in her crib! I was able to swaddle her once she fell asleep after her midnite snackeroon. She did wake up, but was fine being swaddled and comforted with the paci. I really do think that she was waking up cold before. So, she slept until 5, ate again, and then slept until almost 10!! I didn't sleep too well, I kept waking up startled, thinking something was surely going on and that the monitor was failing me... haha.
Yesterday we also went to multiple stores. She did really well and was much loved by the owner of Wild Birds Unlimited whose grandchildren live in SPAIN!!! Bill's Mom thought she had it rough! :) Her grandkids are twins, and are ten weeks old. They were cute, but have nothing on sass! We also went to Hallmark and Target. In Target I used the bjorn, she really seemed to like staring at the overhead lights as they went by, falling asleep at the very end.
Today is Bill and I's second anniversary. Van Halen doesn't feel Tardy, I don't feel old. Weird.
Time to scoot, I have to get bills done, not to mention laundry. yuck. Sassy is asleep in her carset, which is in the kitchen. So much for cooking while she is asleep, I don't want to move her and wake her up.

first bath, first time in church, pictures, and misc.

On Friday night Sassy had her first real bath where she was immersed in the water. I got in with her, we avoided all disasters, meaning she didn't poop on me, but there was pee. It's ok, Michael Pheps says everyone pees in the pool! She seemed to enjoy it, and then things went bad quickly, like a volcano, haha.
The middle picture is her at the ripe age of 7 weeks. We'll be taking weekly pictures like that for a while. The top is Uncle Brian's first visit with his neice. They seemed to get on well. He sang her some crazy tunes and tickled her, fitting into the crazy uncle niche nicely. I am sure she will enjoy that more and more when she gets older.
Yesterday Ginny had a big day. We went to her first store- I used the baby bjorn, b/c it was tight gift shop, and she tolerated all the jostling from the car and back nicely. Bill was home doing "house" stuff. We also visited her local Grandma- Mudge - for a couple hours. She did really well there aside from pooping through her diaper into her pants.
Today was also another big step, for mom and baby. Me, a new born germophobe, worked up the courage to take ginny into larger public arena and went to church. She looked ridiculously cute in her outfit that Uncle's Eric and Bill from Seattle sent her. Of course when she got home she needed a diaper change and was ready to eat, so i stripped her before we thought of getting a picture. We'll have to do that soon. The outfit still fits nicely, but thanks to Dad, her feet are very much outgrowing the tiny matching socks. She slept through the entire service, only stirring a couple of times.
Last night she slept an hour in her crib.. a step in the right direction at least. I really think she wakes up cold, her little arms and hands at least, b/c she hates to be swaddled, and sleeps with her ams above her head, they aren't covered by a blanket. I might have to try a sleeper again, but I think she hates the feet on them (too tight maybe), to at least get her arms covered.
Halloween is coming, as usual I am excited. She is being baptized the Sunday after, so we will have guests that night, Bill's parents. I hope they like my Halloween dinner, although I don't know if I will have time or money to do it like I used to.

We made it!!

Sassy and I had our first outing, we went into the library, got our books at the counter, and took off. gone for all of 20 mins. She is still asleep in her car seat, which is on our peninsula in the kitchen. I picked up some books about making your own baby food. Along the lines of wasting money on diapers, I don't feel like wasting money on jarred baby food. Especially since she is doing so well on breastmilk, she will be skipping needing her food pureed. We don't plan on giving her any other food until 6 months or after, depending on her interest levels.
in the photo, this "look" is what i call angry baby eyes. she cracks me up. she furrows her eyes and gives you THE LOOK, when you are trying to quiet her down with a paci. don't you love her?
Our first blog..

Well Miss sassy is dozing away in her baby bjorn as i type. of course she is tired, since she was up until 2, back up at 5, and then again at 7:30. i would like to be strapped to someone for a nice snooze. any offers?
Ginny is 7 weeks and growing. Last night was a challenge, but i wouldn't trade it for anything. Funny how that works. .
This week sassy had her first tears. that was on monday. sunday night we clipped her nails for the first time. that was scary. i don't cut chino's nails anymore b/c i hurt him. we did ok, they are still sharp though.
i am looking forward to getting out with miss sassy soon. we have been staying home until her first set of shots, which are on october 7. i know most people think that this is insane, and i am starting to get antsy, but everytime i go out i am presented with sick kids, and am SO thankful that she isn't with me. i saw a baby last wkend at walmart that couldn't have been a week old, perched over the shoulder of a teenager, who was out shopping with her experienced friend (she was giving her diaper advice) who was also a teenager. that was scary, and so sad. for both parent and baby.
in the next week i am going to be ordering our first set of cloth diapers. i am done with the disposables now that she is getting a little older and bigger. they are such a waste of money, we are spending $20 a week on them, and that will only get worse and she gets bigger... the packages stay priced the same, with less diapers in them. we have already stopped using wipes in lieu of wet washclothes, which work out perfectly. and i feel better not throwing something into the landfill. we had to wean off the wipes sooner than i anticipated b/c we started using huggies, and in less than a day she had BAD diaper rash.. it looked so painful and took a few days to clear up. it started getting immediately better when i began to use the washclothes, so that was a relief.
in other news, it is fall in some parts of the country, but not in satan's attic. don't get me wrong, it is cooler now, in the low 80's with less humidity, but still nothing like i love back home. i always get depressed this time of year down here, it is hard not to have the leaves changing, cool mornings, trips to the orchard, and my morning walks with chino. not to mention pumpkins, apples, and cider. sure we can get that stuff down here, but they are very expensive and not as good. also there is something wrong about buying those things from a nursery set up in a parking lot. ick. bill just sent me a link to a professorship at university of toledo. while that is an exciting prospect, i think that would be a step down for him. ho hum.
well i think i need to get dressed now and try to get sassy ready for a car ride. i am going to run her to the library really quick. hopefully there will be no sick kids there!
